International Mountain Climbing Expedition
As 93% of Tajikistan's territory is covered by mountains and some of the highest peaks of the former USSR including Peak Ismoil Somoni at 7,495m. (former Peak Communism) and Peak Korzhenevskiy at 7.105m are situated here the country makes for an excellent base for the development of mountain tourism and mountaineering. In this regard and to present our high reaching mountains to tourists all over the world the International Mountain Climbing Expedition has been organized every summer since 2010.
During this year’s climbing season the Mountaineering Base Camp on the Moskvina glacier in the Jirgatal district, situated at an altitude of 4.300m, successfully hosted an international climbing expedition which was organized by the Tourism Development Board of Tajikistan and the International Climbing Center Pamir Peaks from 19 July to 24 August 2014 in accordance with the action Plan of the Committee of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
116 athletes from 24 countries such as Russia, Iran, France, Norway, Ukraine, Turkey, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Czech Republic, Finland, Poland, Great Britain, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Singapore, Spain, Tajikistan, the United States, Israel and Japan participated in this event.
